In other news:
I was planning on updating parents on their child’s progress.
Gary seems to be easiest for me to write. He is by far the most interested in scratch. He is pretty much the one that spends the most time coding. When I introduce an activity, he jumps to it. By choice, when they have free time so I can prep my class, he went straight to programming instead of games or YouTube.
In terms of actual programming knowledge, he is similar to the rest, but puts the most time and effort into it. He is often the first to reach what I call “finished”, and can make certain connections on his own without the need for my explanation.
From what I can see so far, he is very likely to continue to use scratch outside of my camp. My final statement is the three qualities I see in him that promise the most:
1) the ability to understand what each code does.
2) the ability to create what’s in your mind, without needing step-by-step instructions
3) the feeling of constantly wanting to to create more.
He is amazing with scratch, and may very well be the best in my class. We’ll see you it goes from here,
